Miguel Angel Martinez, "Mike", 60, husband of Cathy McSwain Martinez, died Saturday, August 29, 2015 at home from complications of a glioblastoma. Married to Cathy on September 18, 1983, they shared a loving marriage for 32 years. Mike was born September 28, 1954, in Havana, Cuba, the son of Ramon Martinez, Sr. and Caridad Martinez. Mike immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1955, obtaining his American citizenship in 1984. He graduated from Greenville High School and attended North Greenville College. A Microsoft certified engineer, he retired from Greenville Technical College, where he had worked in information technology. Mike enjoyed fast cars, computers, and practical jokes. His great sense of humor brought much laughter to many. Mike loved his family, especially his two great nieces, Peighton Simmons and Catherine Jenkins. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, he participated in many mission trips to the Dominican Republic, serving as a Spanish interpreter for the medical mission teams. He is survived by his wife, Cathy McSwain Martinez; father, Ramon Martinez, Sr. and mother, Caridad Martinez; his sister, Marilyn Saucedo and husband, Ray; his brother, Ramon Martinez, Jr. and wife Angie; his sister, Raquel Martinez; niece, Jennie Martinez; nephews, David and Craig Brown and Taylor Martinez; sister-in-law, Kay McClure and husband, Don; brother-in-law, Ken Gilbert and wife, Teresa; nieces, Rachel Williams; Lee Jenkins and husband, Jared. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection and Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 PM, Thursday, September 3, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, with the Dr. Thomas E. Evans and the Reverend Joanne Hull officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor. A private committal service will be held at the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 393 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 or to Spartanburg Regional Foundation, Gibbs Cancer Center, 101 East Wood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
