Michael Fernandez

Michael Dennis Fernandez, 24, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, March 15, 2012, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Born September 6, 1987, in Spartanburg, he was the son of Miguel Jesus and Patty Gibson Fernandez of Spartanburg. Michael was a kind, loving person with a generous heart, who had many friends and was always willing to help others. He loved dirt bike racing, bicycles, and fishing. A graduate of Spartanburg Community College, he was employed with Citrix Systems. He was of the Catholic faith. In addition to his parents, survivors include his sister, Morgan Fernandez of Spartanburg; maternal grandmother, Patsy Gibson Buice of Pacolet; paternal grandparents, Miguel and Reina Fernandez of Spartanburg; aunts and uncles, Elena Carter, Elba and Keith Funderburk, Evelin and Mark Henderson, Jeff and Jennifer Gibson, and Lisa Gibson. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Dennis Gibson. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, March 19, 2012 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Mr. Robert Mahaffey, Deacon. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be John Michael Isom, Harrison Cecil, Cory Smith, Austin Murph, Robert Wise, Josh Mode, David J. Yates, Cooper Langston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family is at the home.
