Metz Keller

January 31, 1942 — September 5, 2015

Metz Keller of Cannon's Campground joined our Lord in the house prepared for him in heaven on September 5, 2015. He fought for life, but in the end, lost a battle against pulmonary fibrosis. Metz was born January 31, 1942, in Cannon's Campground in the home of his parents, Jess and Opal Keller. He lived his entire life in Cannon's where he grew up and raised his family with his wife of 55 years, Sandra Lovelace Keller. He and Sandra were married as teens on November 29, 1960. Metz graduated from Cowpens High School, and worked throughout his life to provide for this family. He retired from his own business Cherokee Tire and John Deere in Gaffney, South Carolina. Metz was a Converse Masonic Lodge, Hejaz Shriner, and a member of Woodman of the World. He was a lifetime member of Cannon's United Methodist Church, and a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School class. His most prized accomplishment was that of being a husband, father, and grandfather. His family will always treasure him and his memories. Metz was also known as "Papa Metz" or "Uncle Metz" is survived by his wife, Sandra Lovelace Keller; their children, Louisa (Rick) Adair of Spartanburg, SC; Dr. Kevin (Dr. Tamela) Keller of Greenville, SC; and Tony (Shana) Keller of Greenwood, SC; grandchildren, Dustin (Tonya) Adair; Travis (Chelsea) Adair; Garrett Keller, Kate Keller, and Evan Keller; siblings Dr. Darwin (Mary) Keller; Freida Gentry, and Yevette McAmish. He is also survived by many longtime friends who were like family to him. Metz was not just a man, he was a friend, husband, father, and grandfather. His focus was on family and friends and that was always felt by those who were blessed to know him. He was funny and could turn a room to real laughter with just a phrase like, "He must be on dog food," or telling his family "To act like somebody." He loved to hunt with his family, and even recently, he worked hard on this year's dove field. Metz planted a garden every year and shared the majority of its bounty with the neighborhood. He was and will always be, "A good boy all the time." A service will be held Monday, September 7th at Cannon's United Methodist Church at 4:00 PM with a Celebration of Life reception to follow in the Family Life Center of the church, where the family will receive friends. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Cannon's United Methodist Church Building Fund or Elevator Fund, 3450 Cannon's Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
