Meredith Parrish

Meredith Stewart Bauknight Parrish of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away at the age of 67 on Monday January 5, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Remsen Bauknight. Mrs. Parrish was born and raised in Easley, SC. She graduated from Easley High School in 1965, and from Columbia College in 1969 with a B.A. in English. She was a member of Who's Who In American Colleges and Universities and served as Senior Class president while at Columbia College. After graduation, she taught English at Easley High School from 1969-1974. She and her then husband moved to Lincolnton, Georgia. She taught high school English at Wilkes Academy in Washington, Georgia from 1977-1991, substituted at Lincoln County High School 1991-1994, and taught high school English at Briarwood Academy in Warrenton, Georgia from 1994-2007. During her teaching career, she directed several musicals at Easley High School and Wilkes Academy, and directed one-act plays at Wilkes Academy and Briarwood Academy. She was also named the Star-Teacher and Gold Medalist Teacher several times. While in Lincolnton, she was a member of Lincolnton United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for young adults for over twenty years, and was a member of the Louise Rees Circle. She moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2007. In Spartanburg she was a member of the First Monday Book Club and the Second Thursday Bridge Club. She was also a volunteer on the pediatric ward at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. She was a member at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Spartanburg. Mrs. Parrish is survived by her beloved sons, Benson Clayton Parrish III and his wife Valerie of Evans, Georgia, and Remsen Bauknight Parrish and his wife Rebecca of Spartanburg, South Carolina; her precious and greatly loved grandchildren, Mackenzie Alyn Parrish, Abigail (Abby) Reese Parrish, and John Remsen (JR) Parrish; her brother, Dr. Remsen Stewart Bauknight and wife Cheryl, of Easley, South Carolina; brother-in-law, James A. Jones, and his wife Tamah, of Easley, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Stella Sitton Parrish of Columbia, South Carolina; mother-in-law Ernestine Sitton Parrish of Easley, South Carolina; the father of her children, Benson Clayton Parrish, Jr. of Little River, South Carolina; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Bauknight Jones of Easley, South Carolina. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, January 9, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by Rev. Thomas Nicoll and assisted by Rev. Deacon Fergie Horvath. Visitation will follow the service.
