Melvin Douglas "Doug" Hopper Jr., 60, of Gaffney, SC died Saturday, January 30, 2021 at his home. Born September 14, 1960 in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Patsy Ann Culberson and Melvin Douglas Hopper Sr. Mr. Hopper was a loom fixer at Hamrick Mill in Gaffney for many years. He was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Hopper loved the outdoors, fishing, and yardwork. He loved NASCAR, was a self-taught guitarist who loved to pick, and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife Christie McKenzie Hopper; daughters, Heather Dawn Hopper of Inman, SC, Ashley Hope Stribling (Travis) of Roebuck, SC, Ann Marie Smith (Chris) of Spartanburg, SC, and Maranda Renee Hopper of Wellford, SC; son, Marcus Ray Hopper (Stephanie) of Gaffney, SC; thirteen grandchildren, and step-daughter, Heather Jarvis of Atlanta, GA. He was predeceased by a brother, James Aris Hopper. Visitation will be held 1:45-2:45 PM Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, with funeral services following at 3:00 PM in the Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
