Melba Hayes Jenkins

Melba Hayes Jenkins of Friendship Church Road, died Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Spartanburg Medical Center for Restorative Care. She was born in Spartanburg on January 23, 1938, a daughter of the late Rembert Wesley and Edna Morrow Hayes and was the wife of 50 years to the late Gerald “Jerry” Thomas Jenkins.

She was a graduate from Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing and retired as a registered nurse with Spartanburg Medical Center.  She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia J. Courtney (Ken) of Austin, TX; a son, William W. Jenkins (Verna) of Pauline; granddaughter, Lauren C. Freeman (Joshua); great granddaughter, Audrey Freeman; a sister, Doris Hayes.  She was predeceased by sister and brother-in-law, Vera Hayes Brown and Rev. Fred Brown.

Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 PM, Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Friendship Baptist Church, 830 Friendship Church Road, Pauline, SC 29374.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the church, conducted by The Rev. Brendon Crowe and The Rev. Monty King. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
