Mayor Harris

The Honorable Mayor Elaine O'Shields Harris, 68, of Pacolet, SC, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born July 19, 1946, in Pacolet, SC, she was the daughter of Faye O'Shields of Spartanburg, SC and the late Ray O'Shields. Elaine served as an administrative assistant in Spartanburg School District 3 and as a lay speaker with the Methodist Church. She was a member of Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution-Daniel Morgan Chapter. After retirement, Elaine served on the Pacolet Town Council for four years and was later elected as Mayor. She served as Mayor of Pacolet for 14 years. During her years of service, she was dedicated, committed and gave unselfishly to her faith, family, and the Pacolet Community. She was truly a servant. In addition to her mother, Elaine is survived by her husband, Phil Harris; daughter, Allison Berry and husband Petey of Whitestone, SC; son, Matt Harris of Pacolet, SC; three grandchildren, Anna Harris, Molly Berry, and Will Berry; sister, Teresa Jolly (Bobby); and brother, Billy O'Shields. She was predeceased by a brother, Roger O'Shields. Visitation will be 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Monday, May 25, 2015, at District Three Community Auditorium (Broome High School), 381 Cherry Hill Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 PM, at the auditorium, conducted by the Rev. Tina Thomas, the Rev. Betty Hedden, and the Rev. Norman Band. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
