Maxine Carr

March 16, 1926 — October 5, 2018

Maxine Gevrez Carr, 92, of Cowpens, SC, died peacefully at home surrounded by her children, Friday, October 5, 2018. Born March 16, 1926 in Johnstown, CO, she was the daughter of the late Charlie M. and Jessie Hayes Gevrez, and the wife of the late Henry Nathern Carr. Maxine was a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother "GaGa" and friend. A faithful member of Westside Baptist Church of Cowpens and church choir, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a retired nurse of Spartanburg Medical Center. Maxine was a 10-year breast cancer survivor. Earth's loss is Heavens gain. Survivors include her sons, Donnie Carr (Nancy), and Ricky Carr (Martha), all of Cowpens, SC; daughters, Joan Rowland (Phil) of Cowpens, SC and Claudia Tirpak (Chuck) of Spartanburg, SC; daughter-in-law, Kathy Carr of Cowpens, SC; 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. She was also predeceased in death by a son, Ronnie Carr, grandson, Adam Carr, and granddaughter, Stacy Lowe. Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:45 PM Monday, October 8, 2018 Westside Baptist Church of Cowpens, 4487 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM at the church, conducted by The Rev. Travis Blackwell and The Rev. Dr. Brenton Carr. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westside Baptist Church of Cowpens, c/o Westside Baptist Bus Ministry, 4487 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 or to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. online at ww5.Komen.org. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to Halcyon Hospice who stood by her side until the end.
