Maxie Perry Garrett Sr., 81, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born March 4, 1935, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late John Lafayette Garrett and Mamie Harris Garrett. He missed terribly, the love of his life for 51 years, his wife the late Thelma Ann Westmoreland Garrett. A U. S. Army veteran and former supervisor with Phillips Fibers and Prima Knit, Maxie was most proud of being a brick mason who "could build anything." He was a 1953 graduate of Cowpens High School, a member of Delmar Masonic Lodge #422 AFM and also a faithful member of Cannon's Camp Ground United Methodist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Sherri Garrett Barker (Dean) of Spartanburg, SC; son, Maxie Perry Garrett Jr. of Roebuck, SC; grandchildren, Pamela Garrett, Cassie Butts, and Bradley Barker, all of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Geraldine Hayes (Donald) of Mt. Holly, NC and Janie Easler of Spartanburg, SC; and a large number of family and friends. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Cannon's Camp Ground United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Mac Kinnett and the Rev. David F. Ervin. Masonic rites and the committal service will be performed at the church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Honorary escort will be members of Cowpens High School graduating Class of 1953.
