Max Ray Bishop, 89, died Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home-Anderson, SC. A native of Spartanburg County, Born August 19, 1925, in Chesnee, SC, he was the son of the late Walter and Sally Giles Bishop, and husband of the late Nellie Johnson Bishop. A U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Bishop received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and a Commendation medal. He was retired from Quality Chrysler of Spartanburg and a member of Arrowwood Baptist Church, Chesnee, SC. Surviving are his four daughters, Vicki Pickeral, Teresa Lankford, both of Spartanburg, Tracy Hobbs of Greer, SC, and Susan Bishop of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by five brothers; and two sisters. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at Arrowwood Baptist Church, 1410 S. Carolina 11, Chesnee, SC 29323. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Daniel Godfrey. Burial, with military rites, will be in Cooley Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, 950 Martin Camp Rd., Chesnee, SC 29323. Memorials may be made to the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, SC 29621.
