Maurice Edward Salmon, 87, formerly of 156 Marlin Drive in Spartanburg, and most recently of Moore, died November 2, 2011 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born March 23, 1924 in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Salmon. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Helen Joanne Liptak Salmon; five brothers; one sister; and was the last surviving member of his family. Moe was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific. He retired from both Firestone Steel Products and Spartanburg Steel with a combined service of 50 years. He was a dedicated member of the Breakfast Optimist Club serving as a Board member, past president and recipient of several awards. He was a longtime member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Moe will be remembered for his sense of humor, and his love and devotion for his family and friends. He will forever remain in the hearts of his surviving family including his daughters, Diane S. Martin (the late Billy) of Inman and Becky S. Casey (Chuck) of Moore, as well as his sons, Michael Salmon (Nancy) of Huntsville, AL, Stephen Salmon (fiancé Joyce Thomas) of Spartanburg, and Thomas Salmon (Lucinda) of Rochester Hills, MI. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, James Peters, Jr. (Gina), Brian Casey (Kate), Helen Casey (fiancé Todd Williams), Kristina Casey, the late Paul Salmon, Kelly Ann Salmon, Matt Salmon, Lindsey West (Matt), Olivia Salmon, and Bryce Salmon; great-grandchildren include Ryan and Jacob Peters, Jesse and Hart Williams. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, November 5, 2011 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. Timothy M. Gahan. Visitation will precede the service from 10:30-11:45 AM at the church. Burial will be private.
