Maude Childress Johnson, 84, of White Oak Estates, formerly of 1141 Doctors Branch, Clifton, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born January 3, 1926, in Blackwater, VA, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Blanche Roller Childress and the wife of the late Horace P. Johnson. She was a homemaker, retired from Clifton Mill #2, and of the Wesleyan faith. Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Sprouse of Glendale, Freida Lingerfelt and Donna Laney, both of Spartanburg; a sister, Georgia Mae Savage of Dayton, OH; three half-sisters, Annis Poole, Viola Blackwell, and Tilda Holcomb, all of Spartanburg; a half-brother, Carson Childress of Clifton; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Wanda Rippy; and a sister, Chlora Petty. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Upton. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
