Mattie Ruth Davis Allen, 92, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills-Landrum. Born July 4, 1920, in Clifton, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Mattie Worley Davis, and widow of Harlen Junior Allen. Mrs. Allen was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, volunteered at the Soup Kitchen for six and a half years, and was a Youth worker at Second Presbyterian and Roselane Presbyterian churches. Surviving are her sons, Jerry W. Allen (Jennie) of Easley, SC, Harlan Dale Allen (Kathy) of Spartanburg, SC, and Carl V. "Chuck" Allen (Barbara) of Harrisburg, NC; grandchildren, Jessica Allen Skinner (Daniel), Jason Johnston Allen, BreAnne Elizabeth Allen, Lea Elizabeth Allen , and Cera Elizabeth Allen; great-granddaughter, Audrey Lynn Skinner; sisters, Rachael Louise Davis Finch of Taylors, SC, and Alpha Davis Holder of Spartanburg, SC; and brother, Archie Davis of Marietta, GA. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Bertha Davis Alley and Othella Davis Jones; brothers, Harry Richard Davis, Toy C. Davis, William Henry Davis, Arthur Davis, Ernest T. Davis, James Elmer Davis, Daniel Oliver Davis, and Albert Bullington. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Monday, May 13, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Sutton. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 438 N Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at their respective homes.
