Mason Gordon

Gene Gordon, 60, of Wellford, made his last delivery Wednesday, November 23, 2016, into the loving arms of his heavenly Father. He fought a long and courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was the loving husband of his favorite traveling companion, Libby Mitchell Gordon. Gene was an amazing daddy to his children, Clifton (April), Adam (Monica), David (Leona) and Katie (Ray Ridgeway II) and his step-son, Jon Simmons. He was Papaw to his precious grandchildren, AnDrew, Jacob, Avery and sweet Arieana. He was the favorite lap for his loving dogs, Sir Winston of Wellford and Madam Maggie of Wellford. He is also survived by his brothers, Norman (Marilyn) and Richard (Jackie); his sisters, Doris and Lynda (David); and many loved nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Mason, his mother, Lucy Christine and two brothers, Wallace and Tommy. Gene spent his entire adult life doing what he loved with a passion - driving big rigs up and down the road delivering anything that could be hauled. He experienced all of the lower 48 states and every province in Canada through the windshield of a truck. He was still involved with trucking up until his last days working for Plumley Trucking. He was surrounded by loving co-workers that encouraged and supported him. Gene has trucking friends all across the country. He was known for his quick wit and ability to make people laugh. He had the uncanny ability to remember every truck stop at every exit, no matter what city or state. He loved being with his family, college football and talking trucking. He was overwhelmed by the generosity and support of his family and friends. Thank you for showing Gene that he was loved. He was a member of a loving church family at Marietta First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 2:00 - 2:45 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. A Celebration of Gene's Life will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bennie Durham and a eulogy offered by Mr. Raymond P. Ridgeway.
