Mary Carolyn Taylor Hart Hedgepath
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Carolyn Hart Hedgepath (Clinton, SC), who passed away on November 25, 2021 at the age of 92.
She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur Monroe and Josey Flack Taylor; her siblings, Arthur Taylor and Jo Beth Buffington; her husband, Robert Hart; her son, Jonathan Hart; and her second husband, J. O. Hedgepath.
She is survived by; her sister, Sarah Taylor Kirven; and her sons, Robert, David (Beverly), Charles (Chris), and Philip (Sharon); her grandchildren, Rachel, Robert, Jonathan, Taylor, Matthew, Seth, Mary, Christian, Augustine, Carter, Sophie, and Anna; and her eight great grand children.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was born on August 11, 1929 in Woodruff, SC. She was graduated from Columbia High School in 1946. She attended Columbia College for two years and then was graduated from Winthrop College in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Physical Education.
She had a long career in education ending with several years teaching fourth grade at Westview Elementary School in Spartanburg, SC.
She met Bob Hart while teaching at the Tamassee D.A.R. School. They were married on May 30, 1953 in Union, SC.
Carolyn and Bob had five children. They lost one child (Jonathan, 13) in 1972 due to a playground accident.
Bob died of heart attack at the age of 62 at his home on May 16, 1983.
Carolyn married J. O. Hedgepath on June 25, 1988. They lived together in Laurens, SC until his death due to stroke in 2001.
Always active in her church, home, and community, Carolyn will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a dedicated teacher, and a kind and generous Christian example by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, 6001 Highway 215, Glenn Springs, SC 29374.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Clinton Presbyterian Community, 801 Musgrove St., Clinton, SC 29325.
