With profound sadness, we announce the passing of MaryAnn Riley, a devoted servant of God, a champion of conservative values, and a tireless advocate for her community. MaryAnn went home to be with the Lord on March 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the causes she held dear.
Life of Service & Leadership
Born on August 9, 1936, in Madison, Wisconsin, MaryAnn was raised in a home that instilled the values of faith, family, and service. She embodied these principles throughout her life, whether as a wife, mother, educator, mentor, or political leader.
MaryAnn's commitment to conservative leadership and community service was evident in her decades of work with the Republican Party and the Spartanburg County Republican Women's Club, Veterans Last Patrol and BlueStar Mothers of America. She was passionate about engaging, educating, and empowering future generations, always encouraging them to: "Read, Think, and Act." Her influence reached beyond her local community, inspiring countless individuals nationwide.
A Woman of Faith
A devout Catholic, MaryAnn's faith was the foundation of her life. She lived by Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." Her compassion, humility, and servant's heart reflected the love of Christ in everything she did. Her strong belief in God guided her life, and she encouraged others to seek His wisdom and guidance.
A Lasting Legacy
MaryAnn's impact went far beyond politics and community service. She was a mentor, a friend, and a guiding force for many. Her final days were spent surrounded by love, faith, and the assurance that her mission would continue through those she inspired. MaryAnn's spirit will live on through The Lady in Red movement, a powerful initiative designed to empower conservative women and continue her vision for leadership and advocacy.
She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Riley; her son, Mike Riley (Julie); her grandchildren: Tara Riley, Jessica Greer (Paul), Kaden Greer, Adalyn Greer; her brother, Dr. Francis Shembab (Barbara); nieces: Lisa Cottrell (Brian), Allison Shembab; nephew: Patrick Riley; Niece: Pamela McLean (Kirk), niece: JoAnn Riley-Miller; several grandnephews and grandnieces.
MaryAnn is now reunited with her beloved parents, Mary and Clemens Shembab; brother-in-law, Kenneth Riley (Verna), brother-in-law, Gerald Riley (Norma), nephew, David Riley and rests in eternal peace.
The family will receive friends from Tuesday, 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm, March 25, 2025, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, visitation will continue following the service.
A memorial service honoring MaryAnn's Legacy will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, in the chapel. Service will be conducted by Deacon Robert Mahaffey.
