Mary Zabriskie

January 22, 1925 — November 6, 2011

Mary Porter Zabriskie, 86, of Greenville, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills-Landrum. Born January 22, 1925, in Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Randall Edward and Ethel Fairchild Porter, and wife of the late David Charles Zabriskie. She attended Smith College in Massachusetts and was of the Episcopal faith. "Mother Mary", a selfless, loving and giving mother whose greatest gift was adopting 5 boys and providing them with the greatest gift of all - LIFE! She started a "Boys Club" in her early 40's in Paterson, NJ, dedicating her life to helping these boys, engulfed in "street life", to bring them closer to God and providing them with opportunities for a better, cleaner life. Survivors include her sons, David Hector Zabriskie and fiancé Lynn Robinson of the home, Miguel D. Zabriskie and wife Dorothy of Anderson; grandchildren, David Hunt Zabriskie of Spartanburg, Gage Zabriskie of Anderson, Julie Stacks of Augusta, David Randall Zabriskie of Augusta; brother, Raymond C. Porter and wife Kimberly of Greenville; nieces, Hillary Porter of Greenville and Megan Ewoldsen of Phenix City, AL. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph Zabriskie. A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Saturday, November 12, 2011, at the home of her son, David Zabriskie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SC School for the Deaf and Blind, 355 Cedar Springs Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
