Mary Thornton

Mary Harvey Thornton, 92, of Spartanburg, died Monday, October 18, 2010 in Orangeburg, SC. Born November 12, 1917 in Pacolet, SC, she was the daughter of the late William W. Harvey, Sr. and Bessie Mae McCraw Harvey and the wife of the late William S. Thornton. She was retired from Aug. W. Smith Company and was a member of Skylyn United Methodist Church. Survivors include a sister, Christine Collins of Spartanburg; a brother, William "Bill" Harvey of Jamestown, NC; a sister-in-law, Peggy Harvey of Thomasville, NC; a number of nieces and nephews, including her loving caregivers in Orangeburg, Toni McCants and Ashley Arrowwood; and a good friend and caregiver in Spartanburg, Virginia Owens. She was predeceased by three brothers, Carlos, Bobby, and Gene Harvey. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. James B. Carter and the Rev. Michael Thompson. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside.
