Mary Edith Combs Starosto, 88, of Spartanburg, entered into life eternal with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, February 18, 2013. Born in Jackson, Kentucky, on February 10, 1925, to Thomas and Mary Combs, she was the youngest of 10 children. Her family moved to Akron, OH when her father went to work for Goodrich Rubber Company. It was there they raised their family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mary met and then married Frank Starosto on November 6, 1954. They moved to Spartanburg in 1963, when Frank transferred with Firestone Steel Products. Mary worked for over 20 years for Butte Knitting Mills as a supervisor and was a very active volunteer in her church as well as Mobile Meals Service. She is survived by her beloved husband, Frank Starosto; four children, William P. Stanley and his wife Janice J. of Spartanburg, SC, Denise M. Starosto Bridges and her husband Gerald D. of Boiling Springs, SC, Frank M. Starosto and his wife Tammy L. of Woodruff, SC, and Master Sergeant Franklin E. McDonald, who lived with them during his high school years and remains a special part of the family, and his wife Jan S. of Georgia; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Daniel Bridges and Brenna McDonald. Visitation will be at 11:00-11:45 AM Thursday, February 21, 2013, in the sanctuary at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 101 St. Matthews Lane, Spartanburg, SC. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon, conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Brown. Interment will be in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary escort. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved her family with all of her heart, confirming it by her countless acts of kindness and selflessness toward us all of her life.
