Mary White Starnes, 92, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born April 28, 1929 in Pacolet Mills, SC, she was the daughter of the late Walter W. and Rosa J. Byars White and was the wife of the late Carl N. Starnes.
Mrs. Starnes was a graduate of Cecil’s Business College and was retired from Dritz-Scovill Co. Mary was a member of Ben Avon United Methodist Church, a long-time treasurer of the WMU, choir member, worked with the youth, and served on the administrative council.
Survivors include her daughters, Marie S. West (Jim) of Campobello, SC and Annette S. Owens (Steve) of Boiling Springs, SC, her son, Carl Edward “Eddie” Starnes (Judy) of McHenry, MD, grandsons, Chris Lanford, David Lanford, Adam Owens, and Seth Owens, granddaughter, Jessica McClurg, five great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Joshua Starnes, and siblings, John Earl White and Florene White Harris.
A Visitation will be at 12:00 – 1:30 PM Monday, October 11, 2021 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Andrew Sizemore and The Rev. Jones E. Brewer. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ben Avon United Methodist Church, 2360 Avondale Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
