Mary Brady

April 8, 1928 — July 1, 2021

Mary Ramey Johnson Nanney Wofford Brady, 93, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, July 1, 2021, at her home. Born April 8, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Albert Benson Johnson Sr. and Hattie Foster Johnson.

A graduate of Converse College, USC-Columbia and Southern Baptist Seminary, Mrs. Brady earned a Master’s Degree in Religious Education as well as a Master’s Degree in Education. She was a retired teacher at Greer High School with over 10 years of service, and was a member of Nazareth Presbyterian Church.

Mary lived a life of service to the Lord with grace and thankfulness. She loved serving as the pastor’s wife at Taylors First Baptist Church, volunteering as an ESL teacher, and teaching line dancing at the Shepherd Center. Mary loved to travel, roaming across the United States and Canada with John in their RV, taking trips to the Holy Land and Europe, and ensuring her family had a glorious beach vacation every summer. She delighted in simple pleasures – clogging to the Bluegrass music of her daughter’s band Gritz, eating hot dogs from Boots’ and Sonny’s, and eating chocolate ice cream, chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, and chocolate candy. She will be dearly missed by her family, her friends, and her devoted team of caregivers.

Surviving is her husband, John Lester Brady; daughter, Joy Nanney Finch (Boyd); grandchildren, Micah Lin Lanham (Whitney) and Jared Ray Lanham (Susan); great-grandchildren, Macie Lanham and Leo Lanham; and step-children, Earle Brady, John Brady Jr. (Donna), and Kay Wofford Bagwell. She was predeceased by her first husband, Rev. Jackson Lee Nanney and second husband, Herbert S. Wofford; daughter, Leesa Ramé Nanney Lanham Stewart; brothers, Alvin Cecil Johnson who was killed in action in Holland during World War II, Albert Benson “A. B.” Johnson Jr. and his wife, Katherine, and stepson, Ray Wofford.
