Mary Lyles

Mary Dodd Lyles, 85, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at her home on Brookfield Road in Spartanburg, SC. The daughter of the late Henry and Myrtle Simmons Dodd, she was born on July 23, 1925, in the New Prospect community of Spartanburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wilford Dodd, who died in combat during World War II. Mrs. Lyles was a charter member of Fernwood Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for over 30 years and was a long time member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. Mrs. Lyles is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, William Crews "Bill" Lyles, four sons and their families. Wayne C. and Karen Lyles of Spartanburg, SC; Robert D. and Debra Lyles of Lexington, SC; W. Alan and Mary Beth Lyles of Spartanburg, SC; and Dale M. and B.J. Lyles of Boiling Springs, SC. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Darby Lyles Thomas of Denver, CO; Dustin Lyles of Warner-Robins, GA; Elise Lyles of Spartanburg, SC; Michelle Lyles of Lexington, SC; Jenna Lyles Burcham, and Chase Lyles, of Boiling Springs, SC; Ethan Lyles of Spartanburg, SC; Dylan, Chyteria, and Chantel Lyles, all of Boiling Springs, SC; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Brookshire of Greer and Madge Jeter of Columbia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Flo Lyles of Spartanburg; a niece, Linda James and her family of Greer, SC; and a much loved dog, Zach. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45 AM Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Fernwood Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the church, conducted by the Reverend's Dr. Dean Allen, Dr. Lisa W. Allen, and Dr. P. Randall Wright. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
