Mary Lownes

Mary Moore Lownes, born in New Bern, NC on December 2, 1953, and died in her home in Moore, SC surrounded by her loved ones on March 23, 2023.

Wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, she was also a teacher for many years, teaching Spanish and Latin until her multiple sclerosis sidelined her. Never one to accept boredom easily, she started volunteering at various schools in Spartanburg District 6, helping ESOL students, and then teaching their families English at night through local churches.

Survived by her husband of 45 years, Mark Lownes and their son, Steve and grandson, Sam; her twin sister Martha Gore, and older sister Marlene Corbett and brother Sam Moore. She is predeceased by her parents, Sam and Glenmore Moore.
