Mary Hutchins

July 1, 1926 — March 21, 2011

Mary Quinn Hutchins, 84, of Spartanburg, died peacefully at home on Monday, March 21, 2011 after a long illness. A native of Spartanburg, she was born July 1, 1926 to the late A. C. Quinn and Minnie Lee Quinn Perry. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, she lived in Spartanburg her entire life except for several years in her early 20's when she moved to California to work. Mary retired from Willard Oil Company after many years of service where she served as office manager and bookkeeper. A member of Fairview Baptist Church, she was active in the Fellowship Sunday School Class until her illness prevented her from attending. She was a loving sister, aunt, and friend. She married Baylus Irwin "Hutch" Hutchins on August 6, 1949. They were married for 45 years until his death in 1994. She lived for 35 years on Longwood Drive and made the courageous decision in 2006 to move to White Oak Estates. Although they never had children, they loved, and were loved by many nieces and nephews throughout the years. Survivors include two sisters, Joan and husband Jay Goins of Clarksville, TN and Omega and husband Sam West of Spartanburg; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Grady Towery. She was predeceased by three sisters, Beth Pierce, Zadie Warren, and Sarah Fouche. The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 AM Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Lancaster, the Rev. Ty Childers, and Chaplain Chad Bowen. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307; or Fairview Baptist Church, 1551 Bryant Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home of Sam and Omega West, 318 Worthington Circle, Spartanburg. The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Edward Warren and his staff, the nurses of Hospice Care of South Carolina (with special thanks to Jameka, Kathy, Diane, and Chaplain Chad), and the nurses from the Hospice Crisis Care Unit. Your kindness and special care of Mary during her final days gave us great comfort. We also want to thank Gayle McCraw and the Fellowship Sunday School Class for all the cards, prayers and phone calls.
