Mary Hursey

Mary Hays Hursey, 92, of Spartanburg, died peacefully Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Skylyn Place-Spartanburg. Born June 28, 1919, in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late William JaHugh and Alice Davis Hays. Mrs. Hursey was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, NC. Mary graduated from North Avenue Presbyterian School for Girls in the Class of 1938. She lived in Lexington, NC for 25 years, then in Wilmington, NC until she moved to Spartanburg to be near her son. Survivors include her husband of 74 years, Lt. Col. Ret. Brooks L. Hursey, U. S. Air Force; daughter, Mary Anne Hursey of Wilmington, NC; son, Hugh Hays Hursey and wife Sally of Landrum, SC; three grandchildren, Christopher Hursey and wife Lisa, David Hursey and wife Jennifer, and John Campbell and wife Ali; and eight great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
