Mary Louise Buck Hinckley, 89 of 400 Webber Road, Spartanburg, and Southwest Harbor, ME, died Saturday, August 8, 2009. Born January 17, 1920, in Dallas, TX, she was the daughter of the late Francis Alexander and Harriet Knox Buck and the wife of the late George Lyman Hinckley. M'lou is best remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her willingness to get involved in almost anything. She was an active volunteer in hospitals and libraries wherever she lived. She was up for any challenge, from running senior proms to sailing from Florida to Maine and back, annually. She was a founding member of the Southwest Harbor Fleet and served on the committee boat for many years. She was also a longtime member of the Causeway Club where she was frequently seen on the golf course or by the pool, running square dances, or helping with the swim meets. Her home and her heart were always big enough to let more people in. Nieces, nephews, and grandchildren were regular visitors, often for extended periods of time. She is survived by daughters, Penny Hinckley of Chestertown, MD, Midge Hinckley Smith of Spartanburg, Laurie Hinckley Towers of Naples, FL, and Southwest Harbor, ME, and Mary Anne Hinckley Mead of Vineyard Haven, MA; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Frederic A. Buck. No service is planned at this time.
