Mary Hayslip

November 27, 1922 — July 19, 2013

Mary Randolph Hayslip, 90, of Columbia County, GA, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, July 19, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital, Augusta, GA. Born November 27, 1922, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Isaac Randolph and Minerva Evelyn Grogan. Mrs. Hayslip was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, as were her parents and maternal grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Grogan. At First Baptist Church, she was an accomplished soprano and member of the choir most of her life. She also played the piano for her Sunday School classes and accompanied her husband, Clifford, when he would lead the singing. Mary attended Eastman School of Music as a young adult where she pursued her passion. She loved singing and on the last day of her life she could be heard singing "Jesus Loves Me" by the nurses on her hospital floor. They said she had a marvelous day and she was their inspiration. She was devoted to her elderly parents and took care of them; devoted to her husband, and was the shining light to her children. There was never a sports game or band activity that she did not attend to see her children. She loved baseball and pro-football and was an avid fan. She was also President of the District 7 Schools PTA for a number of years and made clear that education was of utmost importance. Her family will truly miss her but we are blessed and comforted that she is in heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ. Surviving is her loving husband of 63 years, Clifford Calvin Hayslip, Sr.; children, Clifford C. Hayslip, Jr. (Virginia) of Greeneville, NC, Marsha H. Cantrell (Gene) of Grovetown, GA, Warren R. Hayslip (Margaret) of Nashville, TN, and Carson S. Hayslip (Anne) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Alva Mather (Ben), Andrew Hayslip, Travis Hayslip (Maria), Kara Hayslip, Matthew Cantrell (Keri), Marion Banks (Wade), David Cantrell (Brie), Ann Cantrell, Greg Hayslip, Katie Hayslip, Scott Hayslip, Robert Hayslip, Will Harris Hayslip, and Amy Hayslip; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, July 26, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 27, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan and the Rev.
