Mary Gardner

December 8, 1925 — July 30, 2015

Mary Belle Jones Gardner, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Golden Age of Inman. Born December 8, 1925, in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Stuart and Mary Ophelia Jones, and widow of the late Dr. Ernest Jason Gardner, Sr. A graduate of Spartanburg Junior College, Mrs. Gardner was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Spartanburg where she was a Sunday School teacher of the Maranatha class for over 45 years, WMU Bible Study and Prayer Group teacher, active member of the Ladies First Thursday Group and a former Cradle Roll worker. Survivors include her children, Dr. Ernie Gardner Jr. (Cathy), Debbie Gardner all of Spartanburg, SC, Dr. Ron Gardner of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Jason Franklin Gardner of Garden City, SC, Jeffrey Scott Gardner, of Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren, Jack and Anna Kate Gardner of Charleston, SC and sister, Emily Dunker of Washington, DC. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:45 PM on Sunday, August 2, 2015, at First Baptist Spartanburg, with services following at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone and the Rev. Bill Adams. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Spartanburg, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306 or Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304. Honorary escort will be the Maranatha Sunday School Class and the WMU Bible Study and Prayer Group members.
