Mary Gabrels

Mary Veril Williams Gabrels, 94, of Spartanburg, SC died Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born July 21, 1927 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Nellie Davis Williams and was formerly married to the late Frank Marion Gabrels.

Mary attended Cecil’s Business College and was employed by the City of Spartanburg. She was a member of Cavins Baptist Church in Woodruff, SC.  Mary was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was always well known for her Southern style cuisine, which she crafted without the need for recipes. She kept a sense of humor and wit about her throughout her life.

Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Gabrels Gardner of Spartanburg, SC; two grandchildren, Donald Taylor Gardner (Tiffani) of Murrells Inlet, SC and Andrew Frank Gardner of The Netherlands; one great-granddaughter, Riley Taylor Gardner of Murrells Inlet, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Frank Marion Gabrels, Jr.; and siblings, Bill Williams, Norma Beaty, Hazel Williams, Mildred Ayers and Margie Caldwell.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by Mr. Chuck Wallington and the Rev. Sal Barone. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic, 162 North Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to Mobile Meals, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
