Mary Eppley Black, 100, of Spartanburg, died Monday, April 25, 2011 at Magnolia Manor. Born December 11, 1910, in Bessemer City, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Lawson and Bertha Hill Eppley. She was the beloved wife of 63 years of the late William Edgar "Ed" Black. Mrs. Black was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Saxon. Survivors include two granddaughters, Jan Poole (Tim) of Arcadia, and Libby Longshore (James) of Spartanburg; a grandson, William Black of Lake Blalock; three great-granddaughters, Brandy Murray (Jason) of Inman, Jessica Turner of Arcadia, Kristian Baxley (Greg) of Hawaii; one great-great-granddaughter, Bayleigh Murray of Inman; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Edna Adams of Mt. Pleasant, NC. She was predeceased by a son, John Bradley Black; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Ann Black; three brothers and three sisters. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Brent Dowis. Visitation will follow at the home of her granddaughter, Libby Longshore. Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 155 Deacon Tiller Ct., Duncan, SC 29334.
