Marvin Wortman, Sr.

Marvin Gary Wortman, Sr., 70, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born October 28, 1941, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Walter and Victoria Elizabeth Bates Wortman, and husband of the late Elaine Childers Wortman. Mr. Wortman was a veteran of the U. S. Army, formerly employed with Bulkmatic Transport Company, and of the Christian faith. Survivors include his son, Johnny Richard Wortman; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Wortman of Spartanburg; granddaughter, Brittany Wortman of Spartanburg; sister, Renee Sexton of Spartanburg; longtime special friend, Geraldine Worthington of Spartanburg; and several nieces, nephews, and extraordinary friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Wortman was predeceased by his son, Marvin Gary Wortman, Jr.; and two brothers, Ricky Wortman and Jeff Cox. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday, January 16, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Keith Phillips. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
