Marvin Tolliver

Marvin Earl Tolliver, 89, of Spartanburg, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born November 3, 1921, in Henryetta, OK, he was the son of the late James Earl and Mattie A. Williams Tolliver. Mr. Tolliver was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving in the Asian sector. He was retired from Phillips 66 after 41 years of service as Division Superintendent. A member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, he was a member of Yesterdays Teens and Young at Heart. He was also a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club, serving as Lieutenant Governor of the State Breakfast Optimist Club. Marvin graduated from Carter Nine High School, and attended Oklahoma University. He was the loving husband, for 65 years, of Loyce Schink Tolliver; in addition to his wife, survivors whom he loved and adored include: a daughter, Billie T. Huskey of Spartanburg; a son, Brett Earl Tolliver of Spartanburg; four granddaughters, Marcia Gibson and husband Shannon of Lyman, Jenny Kona and husband Albert of Durres, Albania (missionary servants from Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church), Christie Gibson of Atlanta, GA, Jamie Betsill and husband Matthew of Cumming, GA; and six great-grandchildren, Salome Gibson, Knox Tolliver Gibson, Judah Gibson, Evangelyn Gibson, Annabella Kona, and Aaron Barrett Betsill. He was predeceased by a brother, Billy Junior Tolliver. Visitation will be 4:00-4:45 PM Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 PM in the church, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone and the Rev. Seth Buckley. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Shaw Air Force Base Honor Guard. The family is at the residence and also the home of his daughter, Billie Huskey.
