Marvin W. Charles, 87, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at his home. Born August 7, 1925, in Boiling Springs, SC, he was the son of the late Fred Eli and Cassie Mae Seay Charles. A veteran of the U. S. Army, Mr. Charles retired from WSPA-TV, attended Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg and was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Jeanne Beam Denton Charles; son, Leslie Charles (Beth) of Inman, SC; step-son, Steve Denton (Leigh) of Campobello, SC; step-daughter, Susan Denton of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Alice Moss of Columbia, SC; step-grandchildren, Robert Garmany III (Megan) and William Garmany (Kim), all of Charleston, SC, Heather Denton of Spartanburg, SC, and Aubree Denton of Campobello, SC; two step-great-grandchildren, Kylee Shropshire of Spartanburg, SC, and Will Garmany of Charleston, SC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Sarah Virginia High Charles; and two sisters, Helen Tabbott and Marcelle Gardner. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Hank Williams and the Rev. Dr. Herbert Garrett. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Bob Kelly, Rich Kelly, Robert Garmany III, William Garmany, Blake Woolbright, and Jaye Simmons. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church Global Missions, 316 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306; or Boiling Springs First Baptist Church Building Fund, 3600 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
