Martha Wingo

October 16, 1928 — August 31, 2013

Martha Rebecca Peck Wingo, of Spartanburg, SC, left her earthly home to join Hugh, her beloved husband of 48 years, in heaven on Saturday, August 31, 2013. Born October 16, 1928, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Lowell and Thursa Taylor Peck. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and servant of Christ, Martha was a woman of faith and shared God's love with those who knew her. She was a member of United Methodist Church of the Covenant and the Adult Bible Class, where she served on various committees whenever needed. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, she retired from the United Fund (now United Way) after 26 years of service as an office manager. She will be remembered for her excellent organizational skills and love for all animals great and small. She enjoyed sewing, music, traveling, and writing. Surviving to continue her legacy are her daughter, Robin Rebecca Wingo Wilson and son-in-law, Mark. She cherished her grandchildren...Rebecca Kate Wilson Bright and husband, Beau, Anna Kathryn Wilson, and Andrew Mark Wilson. Her first great-grandson, Jackson Bright, was the apple of her eye and she was anticipating the birth of her first great-granddaughter, Jackson's little sister, in October. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers and sister, Paul Cash Peck, Ray Frederick Peck, Mildred Louise Peck Robison, and Stanley Lowell Peck. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Saturday, September 14, 2013, at United Methodist Church of the Covenant, 9020 Asheville Hwy., Spartanburg, SC 29316. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dan Blair and the Rev. Arthur H. Holt. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens will immediately follow the service. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks for the many acts of kindness shown to Martha and her loved ones by friends and caregivers during her illness. Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.
