Martha Bakke

Martha Ruth Bakke, 64, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, August 3, 2018 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born August 24, 1953 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Erling and Eva Lou Turpin Bakke. Martha was a 1971 graduate of Spartanburg High School, 1975 graduate from Winthrop College and received her Master's degree from Converse College. She was retired as a Special Education teacher for Spartanburg School District 3 for over 30 years. She was a longtime supporter and volunteer with Special Olympics, an avid reader and world traveler. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teaching sorority and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Survivors include her sister, Karen L. Bakke of Spartanburg, SC and scores of cousins and dear friends. A service to honor the life of Martha will be held 5:30 PM Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, with visitation following from 6:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship Fund, 503 Meadow Road, Inman, SC 29349.
