Marshall Burns

Marshall N. Burns, 83, of Spartanburg, formerly of Greenville, died Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Rosecrest Nursing Home-Inman. Born March 17, 1928, in Travelers Rest, SC, he was the son of the late Lucille Burns Jackson. Mr. Burns retired from Prudential Insurance Agency. Following his retirement he served as an addiction counselor for 10 years at the Greenville Hospital System. He was a member of Spartanburg First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Pastor Sunday School Class and Yesterdays Teens Choir, and also served as deacon and greeter. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Doris Ponder Burns of the home; his daughter, Marcia B. Ledford; granddaughter, Monica Ledford; chosen family members: sister-in-law, Evelee (Britton) Fender; daughters, Carol (William) Meyer, Linda (David) Wydysh, and Cindy (Michael) Smith; son, Marty (Sandy) Pittman; grandchildren, Stephen (Ashley), Brandon, Jordan, and Dylan Smith, Garrett and Madison Wydysh, Gavin Grace, Grey, Seth, and Kade Pittman, Will Thomas, Creighton (Wendy), Chad (Dorothy), and Cameron (Kim) Kelly. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Bridwell Burns. Visitation will be from 6:00- 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Spartanburg First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 429 North Main Street, Suite 3, Greenville, SC 29601; or flowers will also be accepted. The family is at the home.
