Mario Schenkel

Mario Walter Schenkel, 69, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born July 2, 1944, in Mannheim, Germany, he was the son of the late Philip Schenkel and Bruenhild Schenkel-Canning (born Bruenhild Sauerbeck). An attorney, Mr. Schenkel received a Master's Degree in Chemistry and a Juris Doctorate from USC. He was a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and of the Lutheran faith. Survivors include his daughters, Carol Schenkel and Kirsty Schenkel (James Hodge); life companion, Irmtraud Steurer; and former wife, Kathleen Schenkel, all of Spartanburg. Visitation will be 1:00-2:15 PM Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Alex Stevenson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family will receive friends at a reception, immediately following the interment. Honorary pallbearers are Mr. Del Krause, Dr. Louis Knoepp, Mr. David Williams, Dr. Spencer Mathews, and Mr. Cesar Blanco. Honorary escorts are members of the Spartanburg County Bar Association.
