Marilyn (Mickey) Scales Hammett died Saturday June 22, 2024, at home in Spartanburg, SC. She was 67. She was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
She was graduate of New Brunswick High School. She worked for an impressive 38 years for Johnson & Johnson. First at J&J Baby Products Company in Skillman, NJ. Later after moving south, she worked for Noramco/Janssen Pharmaceutical in Athens, GA. She was highly regarded for her job skills and her professionalism.
She was of the Catholic Faith and attended the Catholic Church of Jesus Our Risen Savior.
She was predeceased by her mother, Gilda Scales, her sister, Cheryl A. Matejek and her brother, Donald Scales.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Tim Hammett, sister, Patricia S. Scales of Brick, NJ, nieces, Carly T. Scales and Kelleen Grillon and nephews, Donn Scales and Warren Scales. She is also survived by her beloved buddy, great-nephew, William Dudley.
Mickey’s first love and happy place was being at the Beach. Any beach, anywhere! Carolina Shag Dancing was her love later in life which in South Carolina naturally coincides with the beach. As always, it was “Where’s the next dance? Mickey enjoyed being around people. She had that natural “Likability” that drew people to her.
Mickey also had a love of animals, especially her beloved cat, Smokey who was by her side for 17 years until her passing.
A Graveside Service will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, June 28 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
