Marilyn Miller Metz, 86, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born October 29, 1930, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Choice Vernon Miller and Eunice Dominey Miller and widow of Joseph William "Bill" Metz. Mrs. Metz was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, nursery coordinator, and a member of Circle 1 and the On the Go Group. She was also a graduate of Cecil's Business College. Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, and Mema who cherished time with her friends, neighbors, and especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Phil Metz and his wife Maureen of Spartanburg, SC; daughter, Cheryl M. Cantrell and her husband Jim of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Richard Cantrell (Megan) of Simpsonville, SC, Joseph Metz of Spartanburg, SC, Rebecca Cantrell of Greer, SC, Brittany Metz of Spartanburg, SC, and Megan Metz of Boiling Springs, SC; and great-grandson, Jackson Reid Cantrell. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Vernon Miller. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 17, 2016, at St. John's Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Michael Shackelford and the Rev. Emily M. Edenfield. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Capital Campaign, 415 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at their respective homes.
