Marie Sprang

Marie Sprang, 87, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, September 18, 2011, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born October 27, 1923, in Columbus, OH, she was the daughter of the late Edward Cecil and Carrie Eleanor Mossman Hafey. She was married on September 7th to Richard G. Sprang for 59 years. Marie was the owner and operator of a day care and a former church secretary. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Circle #5. She was also a member of Sunrise Civitan. Her greatest joy was her children, a daughter, Pamela Sprang Mabry and husband James Allen of Spartanburg; two sons, Pastor David Sprang and wife Sue of Gladwin, MI, and Rick Sprang of Spartanburg; a grandson, Mark Sprang of Midland, MI; a sister, Kathrine Baumgartner of Grove City, OH; and two brothers, Donald Hafey and Herman Hafey, both of Columbus, OH. She was predeceased by a brother, James Hafey; and a sister, Dorothy Lindig. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 22, 2011, at St. John's Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Emily M. Edenfield and the Rev. Mike Shackelford. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Mission Trip Fund, 415 S. Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
