Marie Fleming

Marie Jeanette Williams Fleming, 94, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in Chattanooga, TN. She was born December 15, 1915, in Rutherfordton, NC, the daughter of the late James Knox and Frances Candace McMillan Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cranford Harold Fleming, and her son, Dr. Harold E. Fleming, Sr. After graduating from Holly Springs High School, Marie attended Asheville Normal Teacher's College in Asheville, NC. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg for over 70 years. Marie Williams Fleming was the epitome of a beautiful Southern lady with all the charm that embodies. Her vivacious, creative spirit, quick wit, zeal for life, and love of people made indelible impacts on every life she touched. Her passions for cooking and gardening, especially irises, were prevalent throughout her home and yard. Helping and giving to others were her greatest joy. Her boundless love of God, her family, and her friends were the essence of her being. Marie is survived by her daughter, Candace Marie Fleming Chazen (Robert, Sr.) of Lookout Mountain, TN; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth B. Fleming of Spartanburg, SC; nine grandchildren, Dr. H. E. Fleming, Jr. (Andrea) of Palo Alto, CA, Dr. Nicholas F. Fleming (Lisa) of Spartanburg, SC; Dr. Elizabeth A. Fleming of Spartanburg, SC; Melissa Jo Fleming of New York, NY; Dr. Russell C. Dreyer (Brandye) of Seymour, TN; Kendall H. Dreyer of Chattanooga, TN; Theodore H. Dreyer (Christina) of Chattanooga, TN, J. Daniel Dreyer (Melody) of Richmond, VA, and Robert G. Chazen, Jr. of Lookout Mountain, TN; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel with the Rev. Steven H. Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Harold E.
