Marianne Ellison Carwile Bartram, 85, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, November 25, 2013, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born August 28, 1928, in Duncan, SC, she was the daughter of the late Roy James and Belle Bernecia Stribling Ellison. A graduate of Converse College majoring in mathematics, Mrs. Bartram taught in schools at Columbia, Pendleton, and Lancaster, retiring from teaching at Greenville Technical College. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, the Alumnae Board of Converse College, the Elizabeth Heath Book and Study Club, Book Barters Club, Azalea Garden Club, and Home and Garden Club. Survivors include her daughter, Alicia Carwile Kennedy Parra and her husband Frank of Charlotte, NC; son, William Addison Carwile and his wife Marian Carter Carwile of Anderson, SC; two grandchildren, Lauren Carwile Clarke (Drew) of Easley, SC, and Julianne Carwile of Anderson, SC; stepson, Dr. Scott F. Bartram (Sue) of McLean, VA; stepdaughter-in-law, Mary Bartram of Louisville, KY; three step-grandchildren, Jeanne Ward (Chris) of Louisville, KY, Greg Bartram (Barrett) of Cincinnati, OH, and Hanna Bartram of McLean, VA; brothers and sister, Roy Ellison, Paul Ellison, Jack Ellison, Tommy Ellison and Virginia Evans. In addition to her parents and an infant son, she was predeceased by her first husband, Addison Brooks Carwile, Jr.; her second husband, Thomas Walsh Bartram, Jr.; and stepson, Roger Bartram. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, November 29, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 30, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, by the Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Evans. Burial will be in Upper Long Cane Cemetery, Abbeville, SC. Memorials may be made to Hatcher Garden & Woodland Preserve, 832 John B. White Sr. Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29306.
