Growing up in Cornelius, NC, Marian attended N. Mecklenburg High School where she met the love of her life and future husband of 57 years, H. Dean Norman. In her early days, she was the Director of Christian Education at St. Paul Methodist Church in Charlotte. After relocating to Spartanburg, she earned her master’s degree and worked for the Mental Health Association and later at the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission. She coordinated the Citizens Scholar Program for Spartanburg County School District 3. Her pursuit of helping those in need infused with her innate grace and love of humanity led to her second career of teaching those on the dance floor as she became a Ball Room dance instructor with Ballet of Spartanburg where she gave dance lessons to both the young and the old. She was a natural as she taught and choreographed dances for weddings, debutante balls, competitions, Wofford College Interims, and to people in search of a new hobby. When she was not dancing or enjoying traveling, her magic often materialized in her kitchen, where she shared her happiness through cooking for those that she loved. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family where she poured her heart and soul, leaving a long-lasting legacy of kindness and love. Her generosity, infectious smile, and sparkle in her eyes will never be forgotten.
