Marguerite Hayes

Marguerite Gwinn Hayes, 90, of Walnut Grove, died Friday, October 9, 2015, at her home. Born April 5, 1925, in Walnut Grove, she was the daughter of the late Enoch West and Ila Wofford Gwinn and the wife of 68 years to the late Robert Eugene Hayes. Mrs. Hayes was a graduate of Roebuck High School and Winthrop College. She was retired from Spartanburg County District Six Administrative Office where she served as an Administrative Assistant and secretary for the school superintendent after 36 years of service. She was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church of Pauline and was the Director for the Women's Missionary Union and church clerk for over 38 years. Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Thompson (Mark) of Walnut Grove; daughter in law, Cynthia Mathis Hayes Lee (Tim) of Walnut Grove; grandchildren, Tanya Victoria Thompson, Michael Randolph Thompson, Robert Andrew Thompson and wife, Susan Schaper Thompson; and Kathryn Leann Hayes; three great-grandchildren, Ellen Violet Thompson, Morgan Elizabeth Thompson and Robert Walker Thompson. She was predeceased by a son, Keith Eugene Hayes; grandson, James Edmund Thompson, and brother, Dr. Wendell Rudolph Gwinn. Visitation will be 2:30 - 3:30 PM, Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Chris Collins. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, 3119 Hwy. 56, Pauline, SC 29374. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 830 Friendship Church Road, Pauline, SC 29374 or Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3119 Hwy. 56, Pauline, SC 29374.
