Margaret Wright

November 15, 1923 — January 1, 2018

Margaret Ernestine Camp Wright, 94, died on Monday, January 1, 2018, after suffering a severe stroke. A former resident at White Oak Estates in Spartanburg, SC, she had been a resident at Park Pointe Village in Rock Hill, SC, since September 2016. The family is deeply grateful for the staff of the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House for their compassion and care, enabling Ernestine to die peacefully and with dignity. Ernestine was born on November 15, 1923, in Vallejo, CA, and grew up in Fairburn, GA. She was the wife of the late C. W. Wright, Jr, USN, Retired, and worked as a riveter in an aircraft manufacturing plant during World War II. While her husband served as a Navy hospital corpsman attached to the U. S. Marines as a medic during World War II, Ernestine provided a stable and nurturing home for their two children. Following her husband's retirement from the Navy, the Wrights resided in North Charleston, SC, and then moved to Spartanburg, SC. She also worked in retail sales and, as a noted African violet expert, founded the African Violet Society of Spartanburg, SC, with her husband. Her most recent church membership was with Fernwood Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. Ernestine is survived by her son Randy and his wife Diana Ott Wright; 6 grandchildren: Kristi Wright Whitaker, Traci Wright Finley, Ryan Wright, Betsy Pennington Ottke, Marcy Pennington Piatt, and Wendy Pennington Harrison; and 15 great-grandchildren. Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, C. W. Wright, Jr.; her daughter, Margaret Francine Wright Pennington; and her five brothers. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Saturday, January 27, 2018, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The Reverends Stuart and Laura Jones will officiate, and Marcia Harris will provide instrumental music. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to The Samaritan Fund of Park Pointe Village, 3025 Chesbrough Blvd, Rock Hill, SC 29732; House of HOPE Campaign c/o Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731; or the ministry or charity of your choice.
