Margaret Barron Pittman, 93, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the Mary Black Campus of Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Seneca, SC, she was born on May 30, 1930, a daughter of the late Charles Henson and Goldie Giles Barron.
She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Queens College, Charlotte, NC, in 1951, with a BS in Home Economics and served as hostess and assistant dietician at the then new Clemson House Hotel. Margaret was a homemaker in the true sense of the word and cherished her role as hostess for all major holidays and family events through the years. She will be remembered for her joy in delicious cooking, passion for caring for others, love of gardening, and small, quiet acts of kindness. She was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church where for many years she was active in circles, Sunday School, kitchen committee and Girl Scouts. She was an active member of The Merry Tillers Garden Club and served two terms on the Young Life committee. She was blessed by enjoying her final years in the fun and caring community of Summit Hills, with additional support from a team of loving and devoted caregivers led by Donna Russell and many Comfort Keepers.
She was a devoted wife to E. Henry Pittman for 70 years. She will be missed greatly by children, Lyn Pittman Shelton (Roy) of Spartanburg, and Wiley Pittman (Toni) of Mauldin. She was a loving G-Momma to grandchildren, Courtney Shelton and Scott Shelton (Eve); and great-grandchildren Tucker and Wesley Shelton, all of Spartanburg. She is survived by siblings, Goldie Stribling of Charlotte, Charles Barron (Mary) of Seneca and Rebecca Pritchard of Greensboro. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Hannah Smith (Joe), brothers-in-law, Bruce Stribling and Graham Pritchard.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday June 13, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 626 Norwood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by the Rev. Michelle Cockcroft and the Rev. Dr. Dawn Williams Gilliland. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Columbarium.
