Margaret Davis Ledford went to her heavenly home on February 28, 2025. Margaret was born in Spartanburg, SC to the late Richard Olin Davis, Sr. and Lolaree Collins Davis. She was married to the late Joel Ray Ledford. She graduated from Spartanburg High School.
Margaret was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. For 20 years, she lived in many places around the world and in these United States as she traveled with her Army husband and four children. She then returned to her hometown where she and her husband, Joel, opened the first Radio Shack in Spartanburg.
After retirement, Margaret enjoyed time with her grandchildren and stayed busy making hand-stitched crosses, quilted ornaments and hand-stitched lap quilts for various ministries. She authored two children's books, How Far Away is Heaven and Where in the World is Thailand? In 2022, her third book, a memoir of her life as a military wife, was published. It is titled Traveling Companion, I Married A Soldier.
Margaret was a member of the African Violet Society of Spartanburg. She was a charter member of Covenant Baptist Church in Fairforest, SC. When she was not able to go to church, she listened to the sermons at Fairview Baptist Church of Golden Valley in Bostic, NC.
Margaret's life verse: Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Margaret is survived by her brother, Richard Olin Davis, Jr. (Carol), her children, Debra L. Haselden (Steve), Rev. David Ray Ledford (Tina), Sharon L. Robbins (Mark), Jan L. Whitworth (Bill), Grandchildren - Shannon H. Thompson (Kenny), Michael Ledford (Amanda), Jennifer L. Radford (James), Kevin Ledford (Meghan), Karen Ledford (Matt), Nathan Robbins (Krista), Holly R. Hammett (Jesse), Austin Whitworth (Sami), Zac Whitworth (Marissa). In addition, Margaret was blessed with 18 great grandchildren.
The visitation will be held between 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Covenant Baptist Church: 200 Evangel Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29301. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. following the visitation at Covenant Baptist Church. The burial will be private for the family and will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
