Margaret Jeanette Frady Kirby, 97, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. She was born in Spartanburg County on April 3, 1926, to Claude Hicks and Pearl Lytle Frady. At the age of 97, she was the last surviving member of her family.
Margaret was the last surviving member of the Lydia Sunday School Class at First Baptist Spartanburg and former member of Drayton United Methodist Church. She worked for Milliken at Drayton Mill. In later life, she volunteered at Mary Black Hospital primarily in the gift shop and with Mobile Meals.
Margaret loved her family and devoted herself to them. Surviving family members are daughter, Meri Lovelace; daughter-in-law, Jayne Kirby; three grandsons, Jim Kirby Jr., Price Kirby, and Kirby Lovelace; one great granddaughter, Kendra Greene; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, James Thomas Kirby and her son, James Edward Kirby. Also predeceasing her are brothers, Reuben, Loyd, Eugene and sisters, Pauline, Ila, Mary, and Josephine.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 PM, Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Steve Gilliland.
