Margaret Barnett Workman Hudson, 90, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Woodruff, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Belton James Workman, MD and Pauline Elizabeth Wingo Workman, and the wife of the late William Manchester Hudson, a well-known local architect. She was educated in the local schools at Woodruff and was a graduate of Converse College, Class of 1943. She supplied support and encouragement from the "home front" as she watched her husband deploy overseas during World War II and the Korean Conflict. She was, for seven years, a substitute teacher at Pine Street Elementary School. She was a lifelong Baptist and a member of Morningside Baptist Church. A former member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg for over 60 years, she taught Sunday School to the 1st and 2nd graders for over 40 years. She taught English as a second language to internationals for 20 years through the ministries of First Baptist and Morningside. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Elizabeth Hudson Womack and Joseph Edward Womack of Waco, TX; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. William Manchester Hudson, Jr. MD and Merrill DePetrillo Hudson of Cumming, GA, and James Taylor Hudson and Cynthia Diane Mullinax Hudson of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, Emily Elizabeth Womack Gist and her husband Michael Douglas Gist of Waco, TX, Dr. Catherine Olivia Hudson, MD of Atlanta, GA, William Manchester Hudson III of Cumming, GA, and Reverend Joseph Taylor Hudson II of Greenville, SC; one great-grandchild, Titus John Gist of Waco, TX; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Belton James Workman, Jr. MD and Emmie Jewell Workman of Mount Pleasant, SC; a 101 year old aunt, Mary Stuart Wingo Knight of Irvine, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by step-mother Kathleen Bruton Workman; a sister, Elizabeth Wingo Workman Maxwell; a half-sister, the Honorable Judge Kathryn Anne Workman; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Diane Kerr Hudson. The family would like to thank Comfort Keepers of Spartanburg, their staff and especially Sandra Cantrell, Jennifer Tombuelt and Jackie Kendrick for the wonderful, kind and compassionate care they provided for our mother during the past several years which allowed her to live out her days in her home. The family will receive friends 2:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, with her nephew, the Reverend Dr. Kirk Hudson Neely officiating.
