Margaret Harrelson

Margaret McAbee Harrelson, 80, wife of the late Dewey Harrelson, Sr., died Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. The daughter of the late Eugene and Grace Brockman McAbee, she was born October 10, 1930 in Woodruff, SC. She was a graduate of Woodruff High School and attended Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 60 years and a long time member of the Open Door Sunday School Class and the Ceramics Club. Margaret was one of the founding members of Spartanburg's First African Violet Society, and for many years, a notary and government poll manager. She will be well remembered for her love of flowers, animals, music, and her delightful sense of humor. She is survived by three children, Dewey "Buddy" Harrelson, Jr. and companion Kitty Kirby of Pacolet, Karen Harrelson Durham and husband Larry of Spartanburg, and Kenneth Eugene Harrelson and wife Jeannie of Wesley Chapel, FL; six grandchildren, Christi Harrelson Ballew, Suzanne Durham Jenkins, Kendrick Harrelson, Becky Durham Nash, Natalie Durham Pusser, and Cale Harrelson; and four great-grandchildren whom she adored, Justin McDowell, Hannah and Benjamin Gilstrap, and Chandler Jenkins. Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 AM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. James Nugent. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P. O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or to Southside Baptist Church, 316 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
